Now you’ve got your breath back post the summer festivals, you’re needing a lick of poetry in your life, aye? And music, and bonhomie? Look no further! Shore Poets is back with a brand new programme of events, and we’re delighted to be kicking things off this month with headliner readings from Robert Crawford and Theresa Muñoz, plus open mic performances and music from the lovely Self-Righteous Brothers. Do point your person towards The Waverley and join us!
Please note, as per the deets in the ‘When & Where’ section, that this event takes place a week earlier than is usual for the Shores: we’ll be returning to our regular last Thursday of the month in the new year, but all autumn 2025 SP events will be on the penultimate Thursday of the month instead. Same time, same place, but – just, for a wee stretch, a different Thursday. Full info below! 💕
The When & the Where:
Thursday 18th September 2025
7.15pm – 9pm (doors open 7pm)
The Waverley Bar, 3-5 St Mary’s St, Edinburgh EH1 1TA
Admission: Our standard entrance charges are £7.50 (waged) and £5 (concession). This includes one raffle ticket, which will also be your receipt of entry. For those keen to increase their chances of a raffle win, we’ve also introduced a Golden Ticket: at £10, this covers entry plus five raffle tickets. Entry is payable by either card or cash, but it’s worth bringing the latter so as not to miss the opportunity to buy a book from one of our readers.
The Readers:
ROBERT CRAWFORD

Robert Crawford is a poet, biographer, critic and literary historian who has published eight full collections of poetry and many prose books, including two major biographies of T.S. Eliot: Young Eliot and Eliot After The Waste Land. Emeritus Wardlaw Professor of Poetry at the University of St Andrews, he is a Fellow of the British Academy, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and a Foreign Member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. His most recent poetry collection, Old World, was published by Cape in June 2025. “Crawford’s first collection in seven years is a gallimaufry of literary games and allusions; it is also ecological poetry of great intelligence and sensitivity” – The Guardian
THERESA MUñOZ

Theresa Muñoz was born in Vancouver, Canada and lives in Edinburgh. She is a poet, researcher and creative producer. She has a PhD in Scottish Literature from the University of Glasgow, where she wrote the first PhD on the work of Tom Leonard. She has published one collection of poetry, Settle, which was shortlisted for the Melita Hume Poetry Prize. Her second collection Archivum, an exploration of what it means to engage with archival artefacts, is published by Pavilion Poetry (2025). Her work has been internationally published in Poetry Review, Arc, Southword, Canadian Literature and several other journals. She has been awarded the Muriel Spark Centenary Award, Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship, Creative Scotland Award and shortlisted for The Kavya Prize and a Sky Arts Royal Society of Literature Writers Award. She has directed several literary initiatives in the UK, including the Newcastle Poetry Festival and the James Berry Poetry Prize.
“Archivum is a work of encounter, an electric exploration of the spaces between self and artefact, self and city, self and history. Within its pages, the dead are bid to speak and the author is transformed by the exchange” – Sinéad Morrissey

We have four open mic spots each month. These are booked in advance. To request an open mic spot in the future, please email us at shorepoetsedinburgh @ gmail.com (remove the spaces)
