SHORE POETS OCTOBER 2022: VICKI FEAVER, IRENE EVANS, OPEN MIC + THE SELF-RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS

Join us for another wonderful evening, with poetry from Vicki Feaver, Irene Evans and open mic readers, and music from The Self-Righteous Brothers. Please note that we’ll be in a different venue this month – the Kilderkin on the Canongate (further details below). As you may know, our friends at the Wash Bar suffered a serious fire earlier this month, and the bar is, at present, only operating minimally. Our very best wishes to the Wash Bar for a swift recovery, and thanks to the Kilderkin for accommodating us at short notice and enabling the October event to go ahead ❤️

The When & the Where:

Thursday 27th October 2022

6pm – 7:30pm (doors open 5:45pm)

The Poets:

VICKI FEAVER

Vicki Feaver is a poet who lives in a small village on the edge of the Pentlands in South Lanarkshire and in Edinburgh. Her book The Handless Maiden (Cape, 1994) won a Heinemann Prize and a Cholmondeley Award and was shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize. The Book of Blood (Cape, 2006) was shortlisted for the Costa and Forward prizes. Her most recent collection I Want! I Want! (Cape, 2019) was also shortlisted for the Forward Prize. Her poem ‘Judith’ won the Forward Prize for the Best Single Poem. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020.

IRENE EVANS

Irene Evans was born in Scotland in 1943 and has lived in Muthill, Perthshire, for a number of years. Irene’s collection, In the Course of Conversation (Red Squirrel Press, 2020) explores the stuff of daily life with honesty, humour, quiet rage and compassion. ‘There is nothing showy in these poems, sharp in their observation … often wryly humorous’ – A.C. Clarke.

Signing up for the Open Mic:

We have four open mic spots each month. These are booked in advance. To request an open mic spot in the future please email us at shorepoetsedinburgh @ gmail.com (remove the spaces)

The Raffle:

Entry includes a raffle ticket; additional tickets are also available to buy when you arrive, should you wish to increase your chances of winning this month’s scrummy lemon cake! Arts funding is a precarious business and our lemon cake raffle goes a long way to keeping the Shore Poets financially viable. We’re very grateful to all our supporters who have contributed to our funds over the years in this way.

We can’t wait to see you there!
