SHORE POETS APRIL 2024: ROB A. MACKENZIE, CD BOYLAND, OPEN MIC + FRANK GLYNN

What’s that you say? You’re craving poetry and music, accompanied by a wee glass of something? You’re scratching your head for where, in combination, these delectables can be found? Well now, look at that – your luck’s in! Our April event, hosted by the lovely Waverley Bar, is nearly upon us – with readings from Rob A. Mackenzie, CD Boyland and open mic performers, plus music from Honorary Shore Poet Frank Glynn. Oui, your wish is our command 💝😇 Full details below …


The When & the Where:

Thursday 25th April 2024

7:45pm – 9:15pm (doors open 7:30pm)
The Waverley Bar, 3-5 St Mary’s St, Edinburgh EH1 1TA

Admission: Our standard entrance charges are £7.50 (waged) and £5 (concession). This includes one raffle ticket, which will also be your receipt of entry. For those keen to increase their chances of a raffle win, we’ve also introduced a Golden Ticket: at £10, this covers entry plus five raffle tickets. Entry is payable by either card or cash, but it’s worth bringing the latter so as not to miss the chance to buy a book from one of our readers.

Rob A. Mackenzie is from Glasgow and lives in Leith. He has published two poetry pamphlets and four full collections. His most recent collection is Woof! Woof! Woof! which was published in July 2023 by Salt Publishing. His work has been translated into French, Italian and Czech. For ten years, he was reviews editor of Magma Poetry magazine. He runs Blue Diode Press.


CD BOYLAND

CD Boyland is a [d]eaf poet, visual poet and editor. His debut full-length collection, Mephistopheles, was published in 2023 by Blue Diode Press and has been described as “a work of desire, refusal and ardent storytelling.” His pamphlets are User Stories (2020), and Vessel (2022). He is currently Co-editor of the Glasgow  Review of Books, and a Trustee of the Edwin Morgan Trust.

We have four open mic spots each month. These are booked in advance. To request an open mic spot in the future, please email us at shorepoetsedinburgh @ gmail.com (remove the spaces)

The Raffle:

Entry includes a raffle ticket; additional tickets are also available to buy when you arrive, should you wish to increase your chances of winning this month’s scrummy lemon cake. Or you can boost the odds of snaffling that piece of home-baked glory by purchasing one of our new Golden Tickets (further details above, under ‘The When & the Where’). The raffle also frequently boasts other no less wonderful but definitely less edible prizes, in the form of pamphlets or books.
